BIg Bummer-Kai Mana withdraws from TP '09

Word came down officially last night that due to some complications John is experiencing at work, he has no choice but to pull the plug on this 2009 Transpac campaign. Lots of dissapointment but we wish him our best and we still have a lot of local racing to do here starting with opening day tomorrow.

Kai Mana, formerly known as Flash Gordon 2, is a 43 foot high-tech carbon racing yacht that was designed by Bruce Farr and built in 1994 at the Cookson Boatyard in New Zealand. As Flash Gordon 2, she has a long and storied past winning her class in many of the nation’s most prestigious yacht races including Key West, Chicago-Mackinaw, Big Boat Series in San Francisco, Block Island and was voted 1995 national boat of the year. In 2004, Flash Gordon 2 was purchased by Dr. Myhre and was campaigned in Hawaii for a year successfully winning the King Kamehameha Regatta, and taking second overall in the Waikiki Offshore Series regatta in 2005.
